Watch out Gannett; YouTube's upping the ante

While watching this oddly compelling video, I noticed for the first time small paid ads running simultaneously along the bottom for about 10 seconds. The ads varied: one was for a new movie called Juno. The commercials (is that what we're going to call them?) only seem to run when the video is played on YouTube's site -- not when it's embedded somewhere else, as I've done, below. The ads are a sign Google is starting to monetize its $1.7 billion purchase of YouTube -- creating yet more competition for ad dollars. (OMG! Did I say monetize?)

Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
