USA Today slashing circulation in Hawaii

In a cost-cutting move, the nation's top-selling newspaper will stop delivering to hotel rooms, subscribers and hundreds of news racks around the state at the end of the month. As part of the switch, USA Today will no longer print at Gannett's Honolulu Advertiser, Pacific Business News says. Instead, papers will be flown in from the West Coast every afternoon for sale mostly at airports.

  1. I find this hilarious. As a former circulation manager for USA in Hawaii, we always (up thru 2000)had the papers flown in from California every morning / afternoon. The carrot at the end of the stick was "just wait till we print here". As plans were finalized @ gannett's new hawaii printing press I was fired due to a "change in management style". In the interim my replacement is gone, the sales manager (who was chosen by corporate) got fed up with management and quit, and now Gannett is in the midst of circling the wagons. Brilliant move, folks. Maybe after twenty years USAT is beginning to realize the error of their "market research". Yes, 20 gazillion people visit Hawaii every year-but did you take into account the fact that a majority of them HAVE NEVER HEARD OF USA TODAY, AND EVEN MORE DON'T SPEAK ENGLISH !!!!!!!!!!!
