USA Today said getting 43 buyout volunteers
The announcement, made moments ago by Editor Ken Paulson, according to a Gannett Blog reader, means the newspaper will avoid as many as 16 newsroom layoffs that had loomed earlier this week. The job cuts, equal to about 9% of the paper's newsroom employment, are among the biggest in the rapidly shrinking newspaper industry.
