USA Today buyouts: 645 years' Gannett service

GCI's flagship is giving up 43 newsroom employees -- nearly 9% of all -- in a round of buyouts gripping the nation's biggest-circulation newspaper starting this week. Each eligible employee had a minimum of 15 years' service in Gannett, this memo says. At a minimum, that's a combined 645 years of reporting, editing, picture-taking, design and public-service experience. Gone and gone.

Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
