Gannett investors had little to cheer during the past five days, given top management's lackluster presentation at a high-profile media stock analysts conference on Wednesday; shares fell the day before the meeting and didn't recover. Indeed, GCI performed worse during the week than every major newspaper publisher I track. The group's performance over the five days, based on Friday's closing prices:
- McClatchy: up 1.9%
- New York Times Co.: up 1.8%
- News Corp.: up 1.4%
- Belo: up 0.4%
- E.W. Scripps: up 0.4%
- Dow Jones & Co: up 0.3%
- Washington Post: down 0.8%
- Gannett: down 2.5%

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
