Flack: Des Moines Editor tough as al Qaeda?

Sen. Fred Thompson didn't like the rules established by Des Moines Register Editor Carolyn Washburn (left) during last night's Republican debate. And he turned his anger on the other candidates for not joining his protest, CNN says.

"I am not sure how these other candidates plan to defeat al Qaeda when they can't even take on Carolyn Washburn," said Thompson spokesman Todd Harris in a statement. "The format of this debate was more of a joke than a Mike Huckabee foreign policy answer."

Washburn moderated the debate, co-sponsored by the Register. The paper's coverage is here; at a glance, it's technologically impressive. I'll write more about it later today.
