Hot Off the Press: The News-Press

This is today's Fort Myers (Fla.) News-Press; click on the image for a bigger view. Gannett promoted it as a pioneer in the seven-desks strategy when that initiative was first rolled out last year. The Washington Post gave the News-Press a once-over in this generally positive story about the then-new Gannett strategy. Suddenly, we were all talking about employing mojos.

In this morning's edition, I immediately noticed the prominent "TODAY@news-press.com'' promo to the paper's online content, in the far-left column. Good idea.

The News-Press at a glance:
  • Publisher: Carol Hudler
  • Executive Editor and Vice President/News: Kate Marymont
  • Founded: 1884
  • Joined Gannett: 1971
  • Employees: 650
  • Circulation: 90,142 morning; 108,884 Sunday

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
