Time for Jennifer Carroll to get out more?

I ask that question after reading Editor & Publisher's new update about the seven-desk strategy, roughly nine months after GCI rolled it out. There wasn't a whole lot new in the piece. But I was struck by the following passage over employees complaining about the work and stress in frequently updating stories online. Referring to Jennifer Carroll, Gannett's vice president of new media content, the story says:

"Carroll says the workload complaints aren't valid, calling them 'the emperor's new clothes.' The tools for posting Web stories, she adds, 'are enhanced and it is very easy to update a story.'"

My reaction: Dismissing employee concerns out of hand won't win over any converts. In fact, how does Carroll know those complaints aren't valid? How much unguarded time has she spent in a GCI newsroom recently?

Thoughts, anyone?

  3. Ms. Carroll has obviously never used the antiquated software that she speaks out. That is outright hillarious.
