Idaho Statesman shutters free weekly

The former Gannett newspaper, now owned by McClatchy, today published its last issue of Thrive. "The newspaper business is an ever-changing one, and we’re finding we need to focus on the already-strong features sections we publish in the Idaho Statesman," editor David Parker wrote in the final issue.

The youth-oriented publication was one of the first GCI launched in recent years as it sought to battle free weeklies. With Thrive's closing, I wonder if the company has pulled the plug on any other of these weeklies? Send tips to Gannett Blog.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
