Indy | When a good Web video goes to the dogs

Here's a clever video that required something better than a simple iPhone. In it, The Indianapolis Star's Michelle Pemberton strapped video cameras on Butler University's four-legged mascot to capture the bulldog's view of running onto the basketball court at game time, where he's greeted by players with a pat on the head. It's pretty funny.

  2. Hats off!!! I continue to be impressed by the effort folks put in to find new, creative topics to complain about. This one must have taken enormous effort and time. So in honor of Ma./Mr. 9:05 the award will be called the "Bull Dog." congratulations 9:05. I am literally tingling with excitement to see who will win today!!!

  5. The quality of video depends far less on the gear than on the skills of the reporter. I've seen some pretty sophisticated work done on iPhones. What's key is giving reporters the skills in order to use their iPhones to produce excellent video. It can be done and is being done at a lot of places.

  6. I should have added. You could have given a reporter a $2,000 camera and still gotten bad video in return. Happens all of the time. But I think giving reporters iPhones to shoot video in the field is a huge step in the right direction. You may get some bad video to begin with, but the more people get comfortable with shooting video, the better they'll get at it. The quality will improve if people embrace it and, most importantly, have some fun, too!

  7. Those are NOT iPhones strapped to the top and belly of the dog. Maybe the videographer will show up here and give us some 411 on it?

Actually they ate Contour Roam cams purchased out of my own pocket. A lot like the Go Pro cams but better in my opinion. Just used them on the tornado yesterday.

Thanks, Michelle. I've heard some crazy stuff has been done with the Go Pros. They float, and are waterproof. Someone at a non-Gannett property attached one to a load of bread, pitched it out in a city lake, and recorded the ducks eating the bread!

Don't forget to write it off your taxes as a business expense.
