Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

The Production situation in Indiana, The Indianapolis Star, and the Lafayette paper has been taken filled
ReplyDeleteDave Priessier, will become VP of Production at both newspapers effective soon. Mr. P still has to help close up the Cincy production facility, unless GPS leaves that to the lawyers. Good news for the Indy group, Dave is a good guy.

Any word on who took the buyouts in Louisville?

ReplyDeleteAny word on how many are accepting the buyouts in Phoenix?
ReplyDeleteDo you think all 44 in the news room will take the offer since all will be accepted?
PointRoll leaders at 1 pm: I remove comments that make unsubstantiated allegations, including "ripping" off. Plus, saying someone is using March.com is unnecessarily personal and embarrassing when you identify them by name.
ReplyDeleteDid you mean Match.com, Jim?
ReplyDeleteThe reorganization that's happening in the ad department in Shreveport, is that happening at all papers?
ReplyDelete2:18 In Shreveport, were some managers told they could reapply for sales jobs, but might not get them and so could be laid off?
ReplyDeletePriesser taking over Indy and Lafayette: Great move.
ReplyDeleteValue of getting away from Buchanan: Priceless.
Usa Today's sports model will likely be applied to other sectionsvof the paper and elsewhere in gannett. get ready for more friendly news and more hires who have no actual journalism skills.
ReplyDeleteJim, that's what I heard happened. Can anyone from Shreveport shed some light on the subject?
ReplyDelete3:03 That became evident with reorganization in August 2010.
ReplyDeleteNo brainer on The Indy Production move. Dave will be a good fit. Unless he was going to leave the compnay, the timing was perfect. No were to go but Indy at this time anyways.
ReplyDeleteEnd of first quater coming up. Any word on 2nd Q. furloughs, I sure could use a vacation during the summer. Gracia, when your done radin this, please go ahead an implement the furlough program for the second Q.
ReplyDeleteThank You Corp.
A GPS worker who works just for a paycheck and gives a shoot about anything else company wise. I enjoy the time off and it will save GPS millions, so please make the annoucemnet soon so I can schudule some vacation days
If you refuse to apply for an open job and yours goes away, that's a quit - no unemployment.
ReplyDeleteBut if you apply for a job and you don't get one and yours goes away, that's still open to unemployment and the extra company money, correct?
Wonder why no one in G A N N E T T thought to tell us Wisconsinites this news?

Jim: check out Nick Kristoff column in today's NY Times Week in review. Village Voice lonk to Web site that offers prostitution services.
ReplyDeleteI worked with Dave Preisser about 20 years ago in Poughkeepsie when we were both starting out in Gannett. He's a good guy and very talented. Indianapolis is lucky to have him.
ReplyDeleteGood to see Dave P. and his friends and family posting here today.
ReplyDelete7:03 I agree, I worked with Dave in Pok. And Brevard. A great guy and asset to Indy. Not many left like him.
ReplyDelete7:03 I agree, I worked with Dave in Pok. And Brevard. A great guy and asset to Indy. Not many left like him.
ReplyDeleteI think if you don't apply you still get unemployment. Can someone please clarify. Others at my site did not apply and still got the Gannett unemployment and weeks.
ReplyDeleteMore feet on the street is the plan.
ReplyDeleteShould it really take this long for a USAT editor to be named? They'd do well to find a nxt gen leader from the outside who gets what is going on in today's news ecospace. Someone who has helped transform their news team's approach instead of worrying about how many awards the next person they hire has led. No need to hire from within if they want someone to take them to a new place.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Ted Power in Des Moines?
ReplyDelete9:25 -- Nothing happened to him. He is director of the design studio.
ReplyDeleteWhat are talking about, 925?
ReplyDeleteTed Power is in the design center.
ReplyDeleteWanted to post this in response to some of the negative affirmative action comments from some. Please take a moment to read this book review - it is an eye-opener!

I realize it's just a book review, however there are some critical facts that are presented that offer insight into this issue.
"AA" is not new - but apparently more of a problem when it negatively impacts a certain segment of society.
Any thoughts?
Re: buyouts. People have until March 27 to turn in their papers. And then the company will take some days to select those who will be given the buyout. It'll probably be early April before we know who in Louisville, or any of the sites, will be leaving.
ReplyDeleteJim,
ReplyDeleteInstead of deleting every Pointroll posting, why don't you do some investigation? You have people reaching out with FACTS! And all you keep posting on this blog is executive compensation and Craig Dubow.
Move on! We have some serious shit happening at Pointroll and if you can't find out anything, then what good are you?
Serious shit going down here!!!!

ReplyDeleteHunke has no ability to hire the right people. None whatsoever.
ReplyDelete9:24: seeing if Susan Weiss can handle the job?
ReplyDeleteFrom what I'm hearing, there is some serious shit going down in Shreveport too. What happened?
ReplyDeleteDave did not post to the blog, I did, and the comment were from people who know Mr. P. Not a bad word to say about this guy
