Anyone have any thoughts about the new Kronos automated payroll system that is being rolled out? Does this mean GCI is going to sack payroll workers? Here's one more thing for overworked multi-tasking employees to do. Maybe they'll have us clean the office to save money for more executive bonuses? It's all in reach! Wow, I am going to miss this blog!
We havE basicaly cleaned around our work stations for years. It got to the point we had to since GCI cut staff. Don't even ask about windows, vents or fans or restrooms in this tenement. But there is always money for managers.
This blog has been invaluable to many Gannett employee's, current and former...Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you Jim...Am really hoping someone will open another site where we can at least share what's going on at our individual properties...It could never be the Gannett Blog, but it would be some way of keeping abreast of the Gannett BS and spin.
Crystal Palace: "The Gannett Blog is shutting down? Well, let the firings, layoffs and RIFs begin! No one will ever know about them! Bwah ha ha ha ha!"
Party's over. Time to call it a day. They've burst your pretty balloon and taken the moon away. Time to wind up the masquerade. The piper must be paid.
Seemed to be right just being with him, but now you must wake up. All dreams must end. It's all over, my friend.
Love the "secret print approach." http://www.thewrap.com/usa-today-circulation-double-larry-kramer-exclusive Here's a better idea: Gannett local papers should enter a "partnership" with The New York Times and insert the National Edition. I would gladly buy that. I won't subscribe to a Gannett paper that forces USA Today into my home. I suspect many others feel likewise.
Jim is shutting down the blog just as the 1st Quarter RIF lists are in motion. But, that being said, no matter when Jim would pull the plug, there will always be a RIF list in motion. Best of luck, Jim, on your future endeavors. You've helped a lot of people in the trenches and kept the millionaires (and hundred-thousand-aires) in GCI and Freedom Forum management uncomfortable. Take care.
Funny, but I worked at one of the "papers" and I was amazed no one was able to actually think for themselves. It appeared to me everyone was lulled into the reality that was the cult of personality called the Publisher. In the end, Animal Farm ruled.
Putting USA Today in a local paper is NOT like putting NBC News on a local affiliate….sorry to tell Mr Kramer. Local advertisers buy local airtime. Why would a local advertiser want to buy a USA Today insert….it's like USA Weekend just during the week. And why would a national advertiser want to buy USA Today locally. It's not the same as the TV model. What a desperate measure by USA Today to grow circulation.
Who is going to step up to the plate and carry the torch? We can't let Gannett think they have won. There has to be someone out there that is willing to let Gannett employees post news and keep each other informed
Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
