Gannett loves to preach about diversity yet practices narrow-minded elitism, especially for dark-skinned people. USA Today sports coverage this week is a perfect example:
Venus Williams loses in the first round at Wimbledon -- buried.
Mario Balotelli scores two goals to put Italy in the Euro 2012 final -- buried.
Tiger Woods struggles in the first round of his own golf tournament -- played up.
Yes, hiring a more diverse staff will certainly improv the newspaper, digital and all the poor choices the white people in charge make. please alert Brent Jones.
If you really wanted readers opinions on USA Today’s story, “What’s next in healthcare?”, then why have you blocked valid comments regarding data it presents and speculation about what American businesses and Gannett might do with their plans?
If you blocked it because of your own biases, then you’ve demonstrated one of the points I was trying to make about media bias as a whole.
Too bad as both areas are valid for adult discussion, just not here apparently despite that many of the people frequent this site are the ones who write the stories.
"Gannett loves to preach about diversity yet practices narrow-minded elitism, especially for dark-skinned people." I certainly witnessed that at my site, the narrow-minded elitism, but I did not ever see it predicated upon race. No matter how bad one sucked or how good one was at one's job, you were either in the clique or out of the clique. Period.
As a fat white guy, ive been passed over for several jobs in the name of diversity- and managers getting Gannett bonuses for minority hires and promotions.
So Gannett is striving to become "World Class", with world class objectives and guidelines to become the best sales group you can. If you follow these guidelines, you will become successful and so will the company. All those following the guide lines, I have found, are struggling to be successful. Yet, there are those folks who refuse to follow the guide lines, know nothing about our audience or distribution and are the most successful aLways going way above goal. How is that possible when "world class" is a guaranteed success?...NOT!
Crain's in Chicago is reporting that the Tribune Co may be forced to sell some TV or newspaper operations in some markets because SCOTUS did not reconsider a 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals regarding media ownership rules. Any word if this also impacts Gannett in markets where they own both a TV station and newspaper (Phoenix)?
No partisan swipes, just adult questions about what USAT reported in that piece:
“27 Million – Projected number of Americans remaining uninsured.” If the Affordable Care Act will be insuring 32 million new Americans, then how can 27 million more still be uninsured after it’s enacted? The only plausible answer is that USA Today is calling “undocumented immigrants” (PC enough for you?) Americans to which by the rule of law they are not. So, again, who are these 27 million people?
”4 Million – Estimated number of Americans who no longer will receive health insurance from their employers as a result of the law.. If you recall, in answer to your question, I wrote millions will lose their insurance and that Gannett, if it chose to drop its plans, could easily save $100 million annually.
Again, both question and respond to USAT news coverage, the latter piece about Gannett suggests what all know it is more than capable of considering given how its already fired 20,000 plus employees – including you – to meet its annual earnings goals.
12:24 and long-term fan, though in regard to your actions here, not so much.
Seems Brevard is back to counting what's being delivered as opposed to what's actually sold again. Single Copy carriers are coming in between 300-400 returns again and they keep raising the draws each week. They had it about right a month ago then right back to producing more waste. Since when is 25 percent returns acceptable on Sunday? If the carriers did that back when they were doing their own draws they'd be chewed out mercilessly.
Hello whoever is doing their draws...it's slow season here in Fl.!
Are you guys even closer to the end than I thought?
This paywall is coinciding with "news" "articles" dropping down to 2 to 4 sentences. Example: Despite budget cuts, State Patrol keeps its eyes in the sky
Hmm, tell me more. Length of piece: 2 sentences, 32 words. Where do I send my money for this valuable community resource?
For a paper that's supposedly pushing sports more than ever, why is USAT ignoring tonight's Euro Cup soccer final? Spain is in the verge of an historic win.
Amid USA Today's pledge to become a much bigger force in sports, Spain has just won an historic second consecutive European championship in soccer. It arrives as the world focuses more attention on international sports with the start of the summer Olympics.
The other two national dailies -- The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal -- have been reporting Spain's victory prominently on their homepages.
USAT, on the other hand, has only now posted an Associated Press story -- to its sports front.
Fixin' USAT online is easy fix. Need lead editor that has done digital leadership at his/her newspaper, loves to win and continues to love uncovering a huge scandal as a passion. This person is a pacesetter that may have a track record of some turmoil and not keeping everyone happy, but does get the job done.
As of 8:19 pm CDT, the Jackson Clarion Ledger had nothing at the top of its website about the ruling blocking a law that would effectively shutter the state's only abortion clinic.
Very interesting, that the Journal News in westchester is not even on top of reporting the Con Edison talks or the lock out. The talks are being held down the street from the Journal News offices. This is a pretty big story, that could become bigger if there are blackouts or severe weather hits the area. What does the JN have, an AP story reporting on the lockout. Come on this is right in their backyard and they can't devote space on their site or paper or have a local byline? I thought the JN was supposed to add more local coverage?
When a new editor for USA TODAY is announced and the person doesn't have 40 years of newspaper expereince the folks will howl. The traditionalists don't want a digital person. They don't really want change.
Actually, most of want an experienced journo with digital exp. overseeing the website and experienced reporter/editors overseeing other key jobs for a change.
8:02- Late to the party again. Try something besides seeing what Newsday is doing, then post it in a timely manner. Not a day later after everyone got the info from someplace else. Even Patch beat you on this!
The clarion-ledger was late w/ the abortion ruling online and never did post the news about several Mississippians qualifying for the Olympic team in track because the CL has mad so many cuts that it has about 5 people working on Sundays and no e of them are jn online That's right. The website is unstaffed on Sundays.

The fact that your readers had to ask you to find the piece speaks volumes about their abilities and to an extent her career choice.
