Corporate reimburses them for the consumables they use. The profit from selling the paper is almost break even. The money they receive from advertisers is spread out, so profits are also minimal. The paper you receive at the hotel is part of a contract that Gannett has bartered. Does it make money or is subsidized somehow. I know they raised the subscription price but I have never paid for a USA Today in my life. I get them free at the desk of my hotel.
