  1. Thank you Jim. You can be very proud of a job well done. You have helped so many.

  2. Oh Jim, any chance you can keep this going as an administrator only blog without adding the reporting? No need to report, just flag what isn't verified? Damn, I'm gonna miss this place.

    2. auf wiedersehen, goodbye

Camera's at Deer Valley can't even catch drive motor on fire. $$$ for stuff that don't work but none for workers.

Dale C. when you posting conditions now that you have Kinko's as your back-up plan for pressman. No wonder print is dying. James 1:26
I leave and heave a sigh and say good-bye, Good-bye Jim

  3. I left Gannett Production after 20 + years, used to think it was the best job ever, after the last 6 years was the worst place to work. Happy I no longer have to work for this ruined company with drones running it into the ground. There's a happier life after Gannet..PLEASE take my word for it

    1. I feel sorry for Jim in sports, but have wondered for a long time why there were two managers in a photo department that was down to two shooters.

  5. Post-it-note-sticky ad on the front of The Post-Crescent Wednesday encouraged people to subscribe to the Fond du Lac Reporter.

Have to get all this fun stuff posted before the blog shuts down.

  7. Newsroom leadership changes announced at the Tennessean:

IMO, it's a start ... but the changes don't go far enough. A few certain section editors need to go, as well.

    1. Top editor jobs at two major properties, Des Moines and Nashville, have gone recently to a couple of youngish editors from the Freep. Definitely a new Gannett.

    2. Hmmm ... what do these two places have in common? That's right: Laura Hollingsworth.

  8. You're supporting this, 3:40 pm? Did you read the part where our 'info center' and its content are now directed by a web clicks expert who's never edited a story?

    1. Web clicks are all that matter under the current regime, which isn't much different from previous regimes.
Besides, when this so-called 'expert' fails to meet goals (which is highly likely given the deteriorating market climate and the Tennessean's own decay), she'll be put on a PIP that's rigged so she'll be out the door quickly and they'll bring in some other young hot-shot. to save the day.
The good part is the pending departure of a certain editor.

    2. Editor or Publisher?

      Delete
    3. Sounds like the new future of all the papers. The answer is put them on a PIP. Why not make the publishers accountable already! With the layoffs of some important people in the communities, the publishers, who refuse to become a part of the community, are expendable. If we have good ad directors and editors, are these worthless publishers really needed? Save money. Save jobs.

  9. Hey, Jim, whatever that new adventure turns out to be, enjoy it to the utmost.

(The disappointing part is with the blog shutting down, we'll never know what the new adventure is.)

  10. You did a great service to us all, current and past Gannetteers. Thanks so much, Jim..

  11. Thanks, Jim! Your efforts have been appreciated by this former Gannetteer. Stay Well and Good Luck.

  12. Calloway on the warpath at USA Today. Four fired in Money and the love will soon spread to more reporters and managers. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Sorry Jim won't be around to handle the collective fear fallout.

  13. Kiddie in charge of Fort Collins, too. So much for experienced leadership and news judgement. Just get that fat paragraph out, STAT !!!!!!

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
