Saridakis named division CEO at e-commerce firm

Departing Chief Digital Officer Chris Saridakis will head up the marketing services division of the publicly traded GSI Commerce, based in the Philadelphia suburb of King of Prussia, that company just announced in a statement.

The division had $128 million in revenue last year, and has about 800 employees. Saridakis, 41 (left), starts May 17.

Some interesting Gannett Blog reaction, including Anonymous@5:25 p.m., who just wrote in a comment: "If I was Gannett, I would be kissing Saridakis's ass right about now. GSI's clients are some of Gannett's top pre-print clients. Check out their client list. It is scary."

Yikes! Here's how GSI describes itself in the company's about us: "GSI Commerce® is the leading provider of e-commerce and interactive marketing services for the world’s premier brands and retailers. We offer a broad solutions suite designed to power each aspect of your online business and effectively integrate with your other channels. Our advanced technology, fulfillment, customer care and interactive marketing services enable our clients to elevate the consumer experience and cost-effectively sustain it over time."

  5. Just had a Happy Hour in Digital this afternoon and all we were talking about was how we can go with Saridakis. Definitely a loss for us.

  9. why would he move to GSI if it pays so much less??

  10. 3:09 He would move to a job paying less because he looked closely at Gannett, and concluded that there would be no job at GCI within a few years. He's gone with a company that he sees has a future. Gannett has yet to find out where it is going as the Internet erodes profits, which is the message of Saridakis' abrupt departure.

  11. Is there any connection between this new place and Gannett, I wonder?

I'm pretty online marketing stupid, so could someone please explain simply the differences between clients and operations at GSI and Gannett.

  12. I think he is moving to this opportunity because he could make a lot of money. I guess all of his compensation would be filed publicly when he starts and when they come out with their proxy, just like Gannett.

  13. Maybe, it's just not all about money. As we all know, it is difficult to drag yourself, day after day, into a company headed in the wrong direction. He won't be hurting for money, and he'll be looking ahead, not over his shoulder.
