Taxes | A reader asks: Got your W-2 form yet?

It's the end of January, and some employees -- and ex-employees -- are itching to do their taxes, including Anonymous@12:55 a.m., who wonders: "Has anyone received their W-2 yet?"

  1. I've received the W-2 from the Temporary Pay Plan administrator. I went on that in August after declining to apply for my job at Westchester. I'm told that the Gannett W-2 will be sent out soon.

  2. I was seriously worried that Gannett would find a way not to send my W-2 by switching to an all-electronic print-it-yourself system that I wouldn't be able to access because I no longer work there (voluntary separation).

  3. Since some of us were paid by Mohawk Carpet Co., shouldn't we receive a W-2 from them?

  4. Just received my W2 today. It was the LAST one I was waiting on. The taxes were completely finished with the exception of those numbers.

  5. I received my W-2 form from Gannett today but it listed my employer as Pacific & Southern Co. Inc.
Has anyone else received their W-2 from this company? My employee number is also different on the W-2 form this year than in past years.

  7. Got mine today. It was all severance pay as I was laid off in December 2009.

  8. I got my W-2 from the TPP company and also from Hewitt re my 401K. Except there's an error in the 401K calculculations; now the fun begins as I try to correct it Monday. No W-2 from Gannett yet (I was laid off in August).

  9. Pacific and Southern owns WXIA in Atlanta which is owned by Gannett.

  10. Gannett corporate headquarters is taking over more and more functions formerly done at local sites ... to facilitate more layoffs, naturally.

It now takes two months or more for most people to get pension estimates. Some people have waited more like six months for that information.

So don't get your hopes up for prompt W-2s. You're just an employee. As far as your bosses are concerned, you are a liability, not a priority.

  11. Such a simple thing for a company to do. Gannett fails!

  12. Received mine in today's mail

  13. Received mine today, too! As expected waiting until the last day of the month to sent these out! My husband had his two weeks ago. I'll guess it must feel uneasy to see how much the company got out of you after three furloughs! What a farce............

  14. I also got a W-2 in the mail Saturday that incorrectly says my employer is Pacific & Southern Co. I see Pacific & Southern operates a TV station in Atlanta, however I work in Indiana for a Gannett newspaper. There appears to be someone with the same name at the Atlanta station. My SS number and my address are correct on the W-2 but the pay amounts and employer are wrong. This will be a mess to fix quickly.

  15. As a former Gannett employee, my W-2's have always been late. It's no surprise though, what's left of Gannett's employees are so demoralized it's amazing that anything get's done there. While I miss my co-workers, I am soooooooooo glad to be out of that stinking situation. Looking back, I now see the people there suffering in their own existence because they feel that they have no where else to go and are just hoping that they don't get the axe for the sake of DuBlows fat paycheck. Gannet has become the poster child for corporate greed.

  16. From wiki-answers: "Employers are required to deliver or mail/(postmark) employee copies of W2s by February 2, 2009."

  17. Hmmm, interesting: required to deliver or mail employees copies of W2s by February 2, 2009. Wow! I'll guess this one's late, huh??? LOL!
