  1. Daily Record a/k/a Daily (Wretched) laid off 2 people this morning. One in classified, one in online sales. So much for new layoffs affecting the Newsroom, only.

  2. Do you think the poor people who work there know how loathed this paper is in most Morris County communities? It's like a joke.
I had a neighbor who jokingly said he wanted to sue the company for putting complimentary copies in his driveway. He wanted the police to issue them a ticket for littering.

  3. Are any of the highly paid managers going to pay a price or just us worker bees?

  6. "NEW JERSEY ROCKS "Must report that it is A Sad day at the "ASBURY PARK PRESS" . All Circulation District Managers were notified in a meeting this morning that thier services are no longer needed .Some were given 30 day notices and others were told they will be phased out in 2 phases over the next 6 months or so .P.C.F.delivery service will be taking on delivery of the paper and district managers are welcome to apply for a job with P.C.F. District managers were left hanging when questions about severence packages were brought up.Management could not tell the remaining district managers what they will get when the time arrives when they are phased out .I think they hope alott of district managers will either quit or look for new jobs and this way no severence will be needed for them that leave early. As the APP senior vice president quoted in the paper a few weeks ago .LET P.C.F. THE PROFESSIONALS MAKE OUR DELIVERIES.

  11. the CP dm's are unionized, but isn't the contract up this summer? seems like the right time to get out from under the unions in this area with some transfer of unionized functions over to Philly, like printing and trucking. that could be a strategy that allows everyone to save face and sets the stage for PCF to take on some of those tasks in SJ ...

  12. What about the building news? Have the muckrakers come up with anything yet?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yes, Courier post district managers are unionized and their contract expires late this summer or early fall. It would seem logical to farm out printing to the Philadelphia Inquirer (unionized) and have their trucks deliver the Courier-Post, Inquirer and Daily News across the river into Southern NJ. This way the unions are kept quiet, Gannett saves money by closing the printing plant in Cherry HIll and possibly have fewer if any district circ managers. This would make some sense, but than again, looks whose running the CP.

  14. Seems to me that if you get rid of some of the middle managers, you would be able to keep more of the actual workers. ADS is running quite fat with middle management and way too lean with workers. Even with outsourcing things are tough. What say you JR?

  15. Well, today was the termination day for district managers at the app. We sat in a meeting with senior vp Gary DeSanto. He advised us at the 9:30 meeting that we PCF will be taking over home delivery in approx. 6 months and we will all be unemployed. Unfortunately, the meeting at 7:30 informed most of the monmouth county dist. mngrs that they, like the independent contractors will no longer have jobs in 30 days!!!
I can only speak for the 9:30 meeting I attended. I along with the others were advised to apply to pcf for positions. No substantial information was given to us. We do not now what our severance package's will be when we are dismissed in 6 months. We do not have an exact date. All we know is that we are on borrowed time.
I was personnaly disgusted with the discussion of pcf as the primary reason for the meeting. It was a slap in the face to everyone sitting in that room. The first few minutes were used to discuss our demise while the majority of the time was spent promoting pcf. No specific answers were given to critical questions asked by staff members regarding what was important to them. I feel sorry for the individuals at the 1st meeting because they were basically handed their pink slips!! Management at the APP continues to lack any type of class.

  16. so what happened with the graphic artists? Rumor has it 54 job eliminations with a re-hire of 20 with new titles in a central location. New titles will be ad processors. The courier post will follow.

  17. The DR is hated in Morris County? Don't tell that to Boris Karloff!

  18. The Daily Record and the Home News Tribune will seemingly never get rid of their excess baggage. In both locations, they just sing a little Ditty and pretend all is well. We sure know otherwise.

It's also a shame that the shamefully untalented "editorial" dudes at the Courier News have not been asked to re-apply to their jobs! One would certainly not even pass a writing test. The other one is so busy sucking up to Gannett top management, he has nothing else to do but sigh all day. Now, there's a real prospect of USA Today!

The second writer on today's blog says that the Daily Record is loathed in most of the communities it serves. Surprise! This can be accurately said of all the Gannett papers in NJ. Ask your neighbors, ask the merchants, ask the teachers who don't want the product in their classrooms. I have seen one dear reader pick up the CN each day at her local 7-11, read the obits and put the paper back in the pile and then buy the Star Ledger.

Oh, and good luck to Bill Canoli Canacci in East Brunswick! Given the chance and based on talent, he would be a wise choice to take over the top editorial position at the Courier News but I assume that Bill's sucking (up) talents need some refinement.

  19. 5;54 YOU ARE RIGHT THE so called upper MANAGERS AT THE "APP" do not have any class,I hear that they were promoting PCF as if they were the greatest but i have news for them .Iknow that they will have major problems getting the job done .PCF IS BLOWING SMOKE .Iknow people that work for them and they say the customer service is horrible at best. some carriers have no concern for the way the paper gets delivered to the customer and PCF just let it ride and looks the other way.

  22. 5:54 pm. Gary DiSanto has no class and never did. He's one of Bob Collins' ass kissers who progressed up the ladder because of the fact that he followed the driection of Collins no matter what. He's also a crude illiterate who should be dumped out with the trash. It's disgusting that he held sensitive meetings with APP staff (at 9:30) and didn't have the common sense or caring to address the concerns of workers, rather, all he wanted to do was say what he wanted to say, then move on to promote PCF. AFterall, he was part of the decision to pick them. Wonder if he gets $$ from them or will get a high paying position when Gannett finally dumps all over him.
