USA Today print edition, lead story, today's weekend edition: "SELLING SEX -- Has showbiz pressure gone too far?" This is from a publication whose online sports section routinely posts slideshows of nearly naked women.

At the same time USA Today buries and sugarcoats the biggest domestic story of the year -- the NSA spying on anyone and everyone, even foreign heads of state.

If you wonder why people don't buy newspapers, wonder no more.

The plan is for all regional papers with big Metros starting to plan for regional papers in several test markets such as Indy and others. good idea, great way to save funds and riff and shutter more printing plants

    4. HA !!! YOU actually think that the NSA-story is the hottest topic (LOL). No, the hottest topic is definitely OBAMACARE. The other story you had mentioned as also been a hot topic due to Miley Cyrus related events. And, there has been a subsequent backlash against female artists that are making explicit videos which aid to the exploitation of women. It has enraged may women, and has become a hot topic. Yesterday, some infuential female artists have spoken out against videos that exploit women, and have taken the higher road to success. Many people are thankful for the handful of artists that have served as role models to our youth. = That is why it is a hot topic. If you had a daughter you would understand why they chose it as a front cover story. Plus all hell would break loose if we chose to write about all of the problems of ObamaNoCare. I

  5. Whats funny about the sex story is its done every couple of years and presented as news. Usa Today's front page has always been a joke. We zig when everyone zags. The wrong way.

If we had smarter reporters and even smarter editors, we would have a printproduct people would pay for. I dont see that happenng with current leadership.

  7. I'm a Gannett retiree and just received my packet of information about the company's horrible new health insurance plan. Talk about dumping costs on employees to boost Gannett's bottom line.

I think I'll dump the Gannett plan and go with coverage from Obamacare. I'm glad that as a retiree I have that option. It's too bad that employees don't.

    3. Careful on this one. Read the fine print about your spouse's insurance. Under the "Affordable Care Act" if you can get medical insurance thru your spouse, no matter the cost, it is deemed "affordable" by the Act. Ergo, you won't qualify for any tax incentives. It's a huge Catch 22 if you're married to a working spouse.

  8. What about the change in Gannett Health Benefits? Gannett taking advantage of Obamacare.

  10. Oh, the irony:

My former rag of a Gannett paper did that to me, for a whole lot less, and my quarter of a century of dedication didn't mean jack.
So Rem, look no further than YOUR OWN CORPORATION for that kind of death penalty.

  11. In today's world anyone with a job (in the news biz or not) is only a circumstance away from losing that job. Once they cut the cord all businesses drop the pretense of caring. The world it cruel.

The difference with Gannett is the ever-present pressure of meeting expectations and the anxiety/paranoia knowing the axe could fall at anytime. Most of us non-Gannettoids still have the axe over our heads.....we just don't know it. Ignorance Is Bliss.

A lot of people are forced to make career changes at the cost of less pay....not just newspaper folks. Time to take control and make changes or quit whining.

  18. For the Win!

Editor’s note/correction: This story about Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young’s backloaded contract with the USFL has been retracted because the central premise was inaccurate. Celebritynetworth.com reported that Young would be paid the final $36 million of his contract over more than 40 years, paid in the form of an annuity. That annuity, however, was never funded. We apologize for the error.

  19. When you actually read about who qualifies for subsidies, you will relize that the percentage of americans that will benefit is very small. More than likely you will be hurt by the poorly planned ObamaNoCare program, which is simply a reallocation of funds by taking away from the majority to subsidize the lowest 9% of income earners in the U.S.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
